In terms of new medicines on the market, 2024 saw a large number of pharmacological innovations, with a total of 50 new active ingredients being marketed in Spain, significantly above the average in recent years.
For this reason, 2024 ranks highest for the number of new molecules marketed since records began, according to the review ‘Nuevos Medicamentos in 2024’, published in the scientific journal ‘Panorama Actual del Medicamento’ of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Spain.
Anti-neoplastic therapies and immunomodulatory agents account for almost half of the new medicines. Next in line we find the new active ingredients in the anti-infectives group for systemic use, followed by the therapeutic groups of the alimentary tract and metabolism, the cardiovascular system and the nervous system.
