The Government Cabinet passed a draft law on Medicines and Healthcare Products, which, innovative measure for professional development, extends an the pharmacist's authority to substitute medication and also allows them to dispense treatments for recurring illnesses without the need for new prescriptions.
However, the future regulation also includes a new tender system for the selection of generic medicines, which would be funded by the NHS, based on the lowest price.
If finally adopted, this new system would jeopardise therapeutic adherence and continuity of treatment, as it establishes six-monthly reviews that would frequently modify patients' prescribed medication.
