80% of the Spanish population demand more healthcare services from pharmacies and 9 out of 10 look upon greater integration within Primary Care as necessary. In addition, 88% of Spaniards value positively the collaboration of pharmacies during the COVID-19 pandemic and 75% consider that pharmacists have played a key role in the detection of Covid in terms of alleviating the burden on Primary Care services. These were some of the conclusions of the study "The role of pharmacy in the future", prepared by the consultancy firm GAD3 and presented on 18 October 2022 at a press conference by its president, Narciso Michavila, and the president of the General Pharmaceutical Council of Spain (GPhCS),  Jesús Aguilar. As the president of the GPhCS stated, this study confirms once again "that society recognises the magnificent work carried out by the pharmaceutical profession during the pandemic and, furthermore, that new services managed by pharmacists are necessary, based on the proximity and accessibility of pharmacies". Moreover, with regard to the services, he recalled that some of these "were already being promoted by the Spanish regions, such as the collaborative dispensing of hospital medicines in community pharmacies, as well as those related to screening and early detection of diseases carried out during the pandemic". Thus, collaborative dispensing of hospital medicines in community pharmacies is demanded by 74% of citizens, the same percentage that requested services on the development of Personalised Dosage Systems (SPD) in chronic and polymedicated elderly people. Likewise, 85% of those surveyed valued positively or very positively the participation of pharmacies in immunisation programmes and 71% advocated that pharmacists should be a point of reference in public health.
